Police yet to achieve any headway in journalist attack case

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: The members of Arunachal Press Club and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist today staged a dharna outside Chief Minister’s official Bungalow, here, protesting delay in cracking in Tongam Rina shooting incident. Though 46 days have passed capital police are yet to make any headway in the case.

Expressing deep anger over delay, the members of APC and APWUJ shouted slogan scolding capital police and state government for their inefficiency in solving the attack case.

The members of civil society including president of Arunachal Law Students Union Tadar Tarish and his team, AAPSU RTI Secretary Lingdum Taha, senior journalists Bengia Augung and many other well wishers joined press fraternities during the dharna.

APC and APWUJ members questioned how come capital police is not able to solve Tongam Rina attack case whereas Doimukh police managed to crack Jumkar Basar murder case within a short period of time.

Tongam Rina, associate editor of the Arunachal Times was shot at by unknown gunman in front of A Times office on July 15 last.

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: The picturesque  Tawang town, well known for being one of the most popular tourist destinations of state, witnessed violent clashes today in the wake of alleged rape cum murder of 15 years old local girl on August 28. The local citizens angry over the incident gheroed the office of deputy commissioner and Tawang police station demanding authorities to hand over the arrested accused in the murder case to them. The  mob allegedly pelted stone at the DC office and partially damaged an office vehicle.

According to Tawang deputy commissioner Kemo Lollen the girl went missing on August 28 at around 4.30 pm and parents lodged a complaint with police. Later on the same night, police found the dead  and unclothed body of the girl with head injury from Shyro village located nearby Tawang town.

Tawang police have arrested 8 people in this regard including a class XI girl student.

The angry local citizen also vandalized a BRTF labour house suspecting their involvement in the murder incident.

This incident comes as another shock for fear-stricken people of Arunachal after the reports about brutal murder of a girl at Yazali and attack on woman journalist Tongam Rina by an unidentified gunman on July 15.

 

 

 

‘State Govt has no role in selection of Greenfield airport site’

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: The State Government or the Civil Aviation Department has no role whatsoever in selection of the site for greenfield airport since the subject matter is sole responsibility and discretion of the Civil Aviation Ministry, GoI and AAI. The clarification from the state government came in response to the 12 hour capital bandh called by the Banderdewa Circle Intellectual Forum on August 31 in protest against shifting of site for Green Field Airport from Karsingsa to Holongi.

“The fact is that the Civil Aviation Ministry Government of India and the Air Port Authority of India earlier selected the site at Banderdewa-Karsingsa for the Green Field Airport and its foundation stone was laid by the then Union Home Minister Shiv Raj Patil in 2008 under Prime Minister’s Package. A detailed project report (DPR) with Banderdewa as the primary site was submitted to GoI and necessary technical clearance from various agencies were obtained”.

“Later, an inter-ministerial committee of Ministry of Civil Aviation, Air port Authority of India, Director General of Civil Aviation and Planning Commission technical members visited the two sites and submitted their report to the Prime Minister’s Office with the recommendation to finalize Holongi instead of Banderdewa – Karsingsa as the final Green Field Airport Site from technical and safety point of view.  As such Holongi was selected for the final site for construction of the Airport. The technical committee observed that the access to the Holongi site is feasible for two ways where as the Banderdewa site could manage only one way landing and taking off which technically is not sound for operation,” the press statement said.  In the backdrop of Arunachal Pradesh being one of the two states in the country without having any Airport, there is an urgent need to expedite the construction of the green field airport for the larger interest of the people of this landlocked state. The government of Arunachal Pradesh and the department of Civil Aviation appeal the people to be partners to the development and allow the development wagon to move on.

Whatsoever little apprehension looming in the minds of the people over the site of Karsingsa – Banderdewa, state government has plans to gainfully use the land for infrastructure development of public importance in future.

 

 

SLF urges Govt to act tough

ITANAGAR, Aug 30:  Sango Lamte Foundation chairman cum social activist Payi Gyadi today appealed to the NGOs, public and all concerned to cooperate with police team to immediately bring the culprit responsible for attack on senior journalist Tongam Rina to book.

The Chief Minister and Police cannot do anything if public and  conscious  citizens do not come to cooperate  Govt and its law enforcing agency willingly, the social activist said.  All public should work like a police officer and police constable if we really want to  make the country free  from crimes, he added.

While appreciating the CM for ‘personally monitoring this particular case’,  the foundation chairman, however, cautioned that instead of getting public criticism, Govt has to take serious action to bring the culprit to book soon. “We want justice not promise,’ he said.  The social activists further said that if capital police are incompetence to nab the culprit who shot at Journalist Tongam Rina on July 15,, State Govt should immediately order CBI enquiry into the case.  The social activist, however, said “Police cannot do anything if criminals  are linked with top corrupted politician and officers.”

While condemning the brutal murder of Jumkar Basar, the Foundation said all involved accused in murder case should be  awarded capital punishment in public. The foundation also appreciated the SP North Lakhimpur, Assam, SP Nabam Gungte and his team who cracked the case without delay. It is really a great job  done by police team, the social activist said and appealed to the state Govt  to award the team for their splendid job.

 

 

 

Tingkhatra emphasizes on gender equation for balanced dev.

Naharlagun, Aug 30: Women and Child Development Minister Newlai Tingkhatra stressed on gender equality for balanced development in the state.

Attending the inaugural day of the two-day workshop on “Rights of girl child and future implications of unbalanced sex ratio” here today, Tingkhatra called upon one and all for bringing an end to sex discrimination in work place, pregnancy, family responsibility etc. still prevailing in the state. The various NGOs working in the state can play a proactive role in making gender concerns a responsibility of everyone in the society, he said. Informing about various incentives of the Government for girl child, the minister exhorted the NGOs to guide the people and make them aware of such incentives for the betterment of the society. He appreciated Arunachal Pradesh State Social Welfare Board (APSSWB) for organizing the workshop under the sponsorship of Central Social Welfare Board, which would help create awareness among the participants about gender discrimination.

Secretary, Department of Women and Child Development Kapa Kholie opined that illiteracy is still one of the dominant factors for gender discrimination in our state. Though sex scenario has significantly improved in urban areas, it still very low in some places where there is a low literacy rate, he said and stressed on creating mass awareness on the serious issue.

Marina Nido, Chairperson APSSWB in her keynote address said that the mission of the workshop was to eradicate social malpractices and orient the aided and unaided NGOs in such a way that they can work effectively for development of women and children. She further highlighted on various legislations for the upliftment of the girl child and to safeguard their interests.

C.R Khampa, Secretary APSSWB said emphasized on the need to work hard for gender equality as well as discrimination.

Later, Dr Bombei Tayeng Toko, Gynecologist, Arunachal State Hospital briefed about female foeticide/infanticide and various health concerns associated with the girl child and adolescent girls.

Radhilu Chai, Vice- Chairperson, State Commission for Women, Arunachal Pradesh also attended as a resource person.

Efforts on to contain Dengue: Dr. Jampa

PASIGHAT, Aug 30: State Epidemiologist cum SSO- IDSP Dr. L Jampa informed that all out efforts are being made to control and further spread of Dengue and Scrup Typhus in Pasighat and its surrounding areas.

Addressing a meeting to review the on going anti-dengue campaign here today, Dr. Jampa gave emphasis on generating mass awareness to remove the dengue mosquito-breeding sites and its control through cleanliness and better environment management.

District Medical Officer Dr. M Perme informed that fogging operations are being carried out in Pasighat township and foothill areas to contain spread of dengue. A team from ICMR Dibrugarh has also arrived Pasighat to trace the source of the disease, he informed. He sought the cooperation of all to effectively contain the disease.

Dr. T Tali MD (Med) while explaining about Dengue and Scrup Typhus briefed the causes, clinical manifestation, management and treatment of the diseases.

Dr. Kabang Lego, JDHS (T&R) General Hospital, Pasighat informed that the second batch of blood samples are being collected from suspected patients which would be sent to ICMR for test.

Dr. SA Khan, Scientist (ICMR) briefed about the life-chain of the vectors (mosquitoes) of the diseases. He strongly advocated for maintaining cleanliness and removal of mostly likely dengue mosquito-breeding sites through proper environment management to control dengue.

Dr. H Taki JDHS cum SPO-NVBDCP appealed every individual to contribute and be a partner of the Department’s efforts to contain the diseases. Dr. Taki said that  the government is always ready to extend all help and support for the cause of its citizens.

East Siang Deputy Commissioner (i/c) SC Debnath assured that no stone will be left unturned by the District Administration for prevention and control of the disease. He informed that surveillance teams at district, sub-divisions and circle levels have been formed for effective surveillance. People need not panic following the cases of dengue, he said. On the need of creating infrastructure with required materials for pathological tests etc along with technical experts by health department, an order by administration to maintain clean and healthy environment, solid waste management by Urban Development Department were some of the resolutions adopted in the meeting. After maintaining low profile, poachers strike again

MIAO, Aug 30: After maintaining low profile for couple of years, the yet to be exposed gang responsible for pilfering countless tusks of domesticated and wild elephants in Lohit and Changlang district of Eastern Arunachal by using sophisticated methods have struck again.

The poachers on August 27 midnight ventured into the private tea garden of Thuing Pisi at Rope way area, 3 km from Miao along MV road where her 7 feet tall male elephant; called “Khagam” by name was tethered as a routine chores. The perpetrators through sophisticated methods took the elephant to a semi-conscious state and removed both the tusks after slicing into pieces. After accomplishing their evil designs, the gang left the place of occurrence under the cover of darkness and dense forest. However, the injured jumbo was timely attended by Veterinary Medical Officer and needed medication provided.

After Thuing Pisi lodged a complaint with Miao Police Station and a case was registered vide Miao PS Case No. 33/ 2012, U/S 379, the police immediately swung into action and arrested three persons in this connection, who were remanded to custody.

Police records prove their role in various such similar cases in the past and their involvement in this case cannot be ruled out, OC Miao Anand Roy said while informing that all police stations of Lohit and Changlang districts have been alerted and respective OCs have been requested to verify the status of every tusker thieves of their area to ascertain their involvement in this case.

Khampti-Singpho society maintains the culture of attaining domesticated elephants where the huge mammal is respected as bread earning member of a family. Till late 90s, there were many domesticated elephants in Khampti and Singpho societies but after the sudden closure of all timber based industries in 1996, most owners without a second thought sold off their elephants in throw away prices, most transported to South India. A male elephant with shining tusks is regarded as an epitome of a family but in the last one decade, the entire male domesticated elephants of Lohit and Changlang district with tusks were either killed or their tusks mercilessly removed. But despite the fact that almost every police station in these two districts received numerous complaints, nothing substantial had been delivered. Namdapha National Park was known as corridor of wild elephants but sadly, today it is history. The poachers’ active in Lohit-Changlang districts undoubtedly have broad connections but the law enforcement agencies tremendously failed to assess the gravity of the inhumane trade. The racket that struck again is a threat to animal; so is ecology and mankind.

Miao Police has begun the investigation with a mission but the success of any investigation largely depends on the amount of cooperation and coordination involved. (Report by Pisi Zauing )

The Sena-led delegation of Arunachal Pradesh is presently in Myanmar for the 2nd North East India-Myanmar Business Conclave being organized by Indian Chamber of Commerce, Kolkata and Union of Myanmar Federation Chambers of Commerce & Industry with the support of Myanmar Government.  The members of the delegates include Phosum Khimhum, Parliamentary Secretary, Trade & Commerce, Tokong Pertin, Director, Trade & Commerce and Techi Lala, President, ACC&I.

Union decries shortage of PDS items in Anjaw

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Distribution of PDS items, especially rice in Anjaw district is getting worse day by day since introduction of the Public-Private Ownership system, claimed Anjay District Students’ Union (ADSU).

There is a huge public hue and cry over acute shortage of PDS items in the district as beneficiaries are not getting their quota of rice regularly. The situation has not improved inspite of several memoranda, petitions were submitted to the district administration and the authorities concerned, ADSU rued in a release.

It said that a team of the Union recently met the district supply officer to apprise him of the prevailing situation, who expressed concern over the problems faced by the general public and some schools due to ration shortage.

The DSO blamed few Fair Price Shop owners for the shortage of PDS items in the district, ADSA said.

“We are doing our level best to improve the situation. But few FPS owners’ reluctance to collect PDS items on time has created artificial shortage of PDS items,” the DSO was quoted by ADSA as saying.

There is also allegation of non-availability of rice in some circles for the last eight months in contradiction to official delivery record of PDS item to few FPS shops of the area concerned, the release added.

 

 

 

Mobile motor vehicle registration camp held

KHONSA, Aug 30: A mobile motor vehicle registration camp was conducted jointly by the department of transport and district administration here on August 29 and 30.

The camp aimed at facilitating the owners of both two-wheelers and four-wheelers to get their vehicles registered, was conducted at the main road of Khonsa market area.

The programme was well publicized and the vehicle owners were warned by the district administration to get their vehicles registered at the camp within a fixed date failing which they would be penalized as per law. There was a huge rush of vehicle owners during the 2-day mobile camp. Adequate Police were deployed to thwart any untoward incident during the mobile camp.  

EAC K. Tikhak along with the staff of Jansuvidha monitored the mobile camp efficiently. All logistic support like computers, servers were provided by the Khonsa NIC. Tirap DC Sachin Shinde and SP Vikramjit Singh also visited the mobile camp.

Altogether 29 vehicles were registered at the camp. Also, 50 learners’ driving licenses were issued.  A revenue of  Rs 1.70 lakh [approx]  was collected from the vehicle owners during the camp.  

The public has appreciated the district administration for conducting the much-needed mobile motor vehicle registration camp. It is also worth-mentioning that the number of motor vehicles is on the rise.  DIPRO

 

 

 

APPRCC delegates meet CM, submit memo

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: A delegation of the Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Coordination Committee (APPRCC) called on the Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on August 25 and demanded allocation of 30 per cent of state budget to the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in the state.

Highlighting various grievances of the panchayat leaders  in its memorandum submitted to the  CM, the delegates further demanded devolution of power and functions to PRIs, appointments of DPO and ZPC as member secretary and chairman of the DPC respectively,  allocation of sufficient for DPC, enhancement of  honorarium of panchayat members, implementation of IWMP as per guidelines, regularization of ZPC office staff, fund for procurement of vehicle for new ZPCs.

Other demands of the APPRCC include delimitation of Panchayat segment only as per 2011 census, allocation of fund for remainng 7 ZPC office buildings and organization of state level mega panchayat rally/convention at Itanagar.

While giving a patient hearing on its demands, both CM and Panchayati Raj Minister Tanga Byaling, who was present, assured to look into the grievances of the PRIs, the Committee said.  The committee further  said that the CM also agreed to hold state level panchayat rally/convention on Oct 20 at Itanagar. Parliamentary secretary, Panchayati Raj and RD, Punji Mara also present during the discussion, the committee added.

 

 

 

Resentment over slow progress of Seppa-Chayang Tajo road works

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: The Seppa-Chayang Tajo Road Local Vigilance Committee has expressed dissatisfaction over the quality and slow progress in the construction work of Seppa-Chayang Tajo NEC road being carried out by Gammon India Limited.

“There has been no any significant progress in the construction work since July 2012 and the quality of construction of culverts and road are dissatisfactory,” the progress report submitted to the Chayang Tajo ADC by the Committee informed.

Neither a single culvert nor a bridge is fully completed yet as per the work plan and some culverts’ reinforcement is not up to the mark, it said.

Road formation cutting has not been completed within the stipulated time while proper super elevation, proper camber and proper gradient of alignment have not been maintained in most stretch of the road, it alleged.

While alleging improper ratio of sand-cement and use of low quality materials in construction work, it said that the construction agency has not yet acquired and placed adequate construction tools and plants at the work site.

It further alleged that no labour or staff of Gammon India and the client department were found at the work site during its inspection.

The committee in its letter to the ADC urged him to direct the implementing and client department to speed up the construction work by maintaining quality.

‘Defer capital bandh’

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Solung Festival Celebration Committee, Itanagar and Naharlagun appealed to the Banderdewa Circle Intellectual Forum to postpone or defer the proposed 12 hrs capital bandh on August 31 in view of Solung festival.

It said that such bandh call on the occasion of festival would jeopardize and disrupt the Solung festival preparation and movement of participants.

 

 

Arunachal media condemn attack on Assam scribes

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Arunachal Press Club (APC) and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APWUJ) strongly condemned the attack on press persons of Assam during the Assam bandh called by All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) recently.

Pointing out the reported attack on media persons by members of AAMSU at Tezpur and Goalpara area during the bandh, APC and APWUJ  denounced the attack saying that  such attack on media persons during working hours  is an act of disrespect to the dedicated service of media persons who are working fearlessly for overall development of society.  Further, Arunachal press fraternity appealed the Assam government to take strict action against those hooligans who attacked the media persons.

While expressing solidarity with members of Assam media fraternity, both APC and APWUJ also called on AAMSU leaders to create awareness among its members on the role of media.

 

Panchayat by-elections

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: The State Election Commission has decided to conduct the by-elections of all vacant seats of Gram Panchayat and Anchal Samities in East Kameng, West Kameng, Changlang and Tirap districts on October 3. With the announcement of the poll date, the model code of conduct will be enforced with immediate effect, according to an official release.

 

Techi Bida enters final in 29th Sub Junior Men’s National Boxing Championship

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Techi Bida of Arunachal Pradesh entered the final in the 29th Sub Junior Men’s National Boxing Championship defeating his opponent from Jammu and Kashmir in the semifinal at Akola,  Maharashtra today.

Bida would meet pugilist from Services Sports Control Board in the final bout for Gold.

Earlier, Gichik Tana, Aguk Juja  and Ghanshyam Chetri lost their respective semifinal bouts and they had to content with Bronze medal. In boxing both semifinal losers are awarded Bronze medals.

 

Administration declares bandh illegal

Seppa, Aug 30: East Kameng deputy commissioner cum district magistrate Tope Bam has declared the 12-hour district bandh called by All East Kameng Students’ Union (AEKSU) as illegal under 144 (I) Cr.Pc.

The order prohibited movement of people in a group of 5 or above within Seppa township effective 5 am of August 31 till midnight and the instructed district police to take all precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident during the bandh call.

All Government/semi-government and business establishments would remain open on the day of bandh and all HODs are directed to submit the attendance report of their subordinate officers and staff to the deputy commissioner by 4.30 pm on the day of Bandh.

The District Magistrate has invoked U/S 144 (I) Cr.Pc. in order to maintain peace and tranquillity and ensure normal life during the period of Bandh call.

BJP calls for mass awareness on role of democracy

ITANAGAR, Aug 30:  A State BJP team led by general secretary Tai Tagak is currently on a tour to Changlang, Lohit & Tirap districts in connection with the programme of ‘Jaabaaz shaheedo ki naman shraddhanjali’ commemorating 50 years of the Chinese aggression in 1962.

While addressing party workers at Bordumsa in Changlang on Aug 27 and at Tezu on Aug 28, Tagak called upon them to reach out to the people in order to make BJP the voice of the people.He also called for sensitizing masses on values, responsibilities and role in democracy.

Centre urged to give priority on adventure tourism

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Parliamentary Secretary, RWD and DST Kumar Waii  today met Union Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay at New Delhi.

During their 30 minutes meeting, Kumar requested  the minister for consideration of Adventure Tourism activities at Bhalukpong which is a popular tourist town along the southern reaches of Himalayas and also a gate way to three important districts of Tawang, West Kameng and East Kameng of Arunachal Pradesh. He further pointed that it is the home to the Pakhui National Wildlife Sanctuary and Tippi Orchidarium which hosts over 2600 cultivated orchids from 80 different species.The state Govt is also keen to develop Bhalukpong as one of the major tourist destinations of the state, Waii said, according to an official release.

 

AARCA reiterates demands

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: All Arunachal Registered Contractor Association (AARCA)  has reiterated its three point demands  for immediate renovation  of  NH-52A from  Banderdewa to Itanagar, release of all pending bills for the contractors and  construction of by-pass roads both at Itanagar and  Naharlagun.

While expressing resentment over the Govt alleged failure redress its grievances which was submitted earlier through a memorandum to the PWD minister and departments concerned, AARCA said  the only national highway in the state capital has been lying in dilapidated condition since long. Delay in restoration of the road will add woes of already suffering commuters, it said.

On its pending bills, the Association said that non-payment of guanine bills caused  lot of anxiety and frustration to the contractors. It urged the govt to release the pending bills of the contractors immediately.

The Association further said that there is an urgent need for construction of by-pass roads in the capital to ease the traffic movement   and for the interest in road users.

 

West Kameng & Tawang Districts to stage Dharna on 1st and bandh on 2nd Sept

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) will organize a democratic and peaceful dharna on September one near GREF (BRO) office premises at Sapper Camp, Munna Camp, Tenga Valley, Bhalukpong & Kalaktang in West Kameng District and at Tawang, Lumla, Khrimu and Jang in Tawang district to register its protest against the present hopeless road condition from Bhalukpong to Tawang,

AAPPTF in a release said that it had been demanding systematic road broadening work and timely completion of   Balipara – Bomdila - Tawang highway road besides compensation to the dead and injured due to the unaligned road condition of BRO road. IRBn/AAP Bn recruitments

NAHARLAGUN, Aug 30: The Recruitment for the posts of Constables in IRBn/AAP Bn is going on all over the state, including Tirap and Longding district from August 17 last.

A release from Asst. IGP (Rectt), PHQ, Itanagar informed that the 66 posts for Tirap and 102  for Longding will be filled up with candidates from the respective district. The written examinations of the candidates of both the districts will be held at Khonsa due to technical and administrative reasons. However, the interviews for the candidates of both Tirap and Longding would held separately at their respective district headquarters i.e. Khonsa and Longding,  the release added. DIPR

 

‘Revoke transfer orders’

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Claiming the around 50 SSA teachers were posted from Kurung Kumey to other districts with violation of the SSA guidelines, All Kurung Kumey District Students Union appealed to the state SSA Rajya Mission project director  to  revoke all the transfer orders of the teachers within a month.

 

Bharat Vibhushan Sanman Puraskar

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Ego Doye, Principal of Government Secondary School Ganga here has been awarded with Bharat Vibhushan Samman Puraskar at New Delhi on August 27 by New Delhi based Global Achievers Foundation.

The award was given away by Waven William, High Commissioner of the Republic of Seychelles on the occasion of National Seminar “Individual Contribution for Social and Economic Growth”.

AIKF Dan Grading exam

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: All India Karate-Do Federation (AIKF) joint secretary Likha Tara  and technical committee of Arunachal Karate-Do Association would conduct the AIKF Dan Grading examination for all North East states on September 9 at AAPSKA headquarter, Naharlagun. Tara is also the president of AKA.

 

Training prog for farmers

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: A one day training cum demonstration on preparation of jam from Nashpati (Pears) was conducted by KVK, Lower Dibang Valley district today.

Subject matter specialists of the KVK conducted the programme as resource persons. They also briefed participants about preparations of other value added products for effective utilization of the fruit.

Dr. T J Ramesha, Programme Coordinator also performed demonstration on establishment of Azolla and    improved forage crops (NB-21 and CO-3) units in a view to  reduce production cost incurred in livestock and fisheries.

A total of 35 farm women/farmer benefitted from the programme.

 

Pre Solung at Guwahati

ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Hundreds of students from different communities apart from the Adi community studying at Guwahati thronged the Arunachal Bhawan compound in Zoo road tinali to celebrate Pre Solung organized by the Adi Students.

The celebration was attended by Kamar Osik, a senior member of the student community and Tageng Nyitan, president of All East Siang District Students’ Union (AESDSU). The celebration was marked by recitation of Solung mythology and colourful display of cultural progammes by students of Adi Community studying in different colleges of the city.

While advising the student community on the occasion of the pre Solung celebration, Osik expressed his happiness the way students of the community are propagating their culture and festival in far off places from their home. He called upon the students community to give more time to their academic pursuit apart from other activities.

Raju Tayeng  (income Tax commissioner) and Tobom Dai, AAPSU Spokesperson also attended the celebration.

Cooperate with police for the sake of humanity

Dear Editor,

It is awfully sad to see that a lady was shot at by an unknown gunmen in capital city in broad daylight and city police could not get even a clue about it in a month and half. Earlier I used to get angry on such helplessness of police and administration but now it makes me sad. It’s really very sad to see such transition of our capital.

In our childhood, the most we heard about violence was, that a person had punched the other. But now dead bodies are found in every nook and corner  in the state that too in a frequent interval. During last few months, a body of teenage girl was found at F- sector, Itanagar, bodies of unidentified men were found at Pachin colony and Yupia road, dead body of a person was found at Doimukh, a body of minor school going girl found at Yazali, a person was stabbed in broad daylight at Seppa. In some cases, police might have progressed but in some other cases they look dumb and clueless.

In such a scenario, gunmen may roam freely with his /her gun still loaded and morale at his highest ever as he knows that no one can harm him, ready to point at an innocent person again.

Now, I would like to ask the Chief Minister how safe should I feel for myself, my brothers, my sisters and my children?  You at least owe us an answer. Some time back you stated that your police team is very close to conclusion of case, how much longer will it take to cover that "very close" distance?

It’s not only matter of police but we citizens are also responsible for this kind of environment. We have become too selfish. Our tribal society have never been such self centered. I am sure someone somewhere knows who the culprit is, please share it to police not for sake of Rs. 2 Lakh but for sake of humanity.

Appeal for additional MBBS seats

Dear Editor,

The Govt of India has allotted 38 MBBS seats for 2012 to the  Arunachal Pradesh. In fact 40  seats have been allotted to the state  Govt since the last three years.   Why  happened to remaining two seats in 2012 ?

We came to know that the leaders of North East met the Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad over the MBBS seat allocation at New Delhi recently. We wonders, if the NE leaders met the Union Minister to reduce the MBBS seats for 2012 or  to make strong plea for additional seats.

Our name have been included in merit list and we are eligible for MBBS course as per previous years’  seat allocation. Now on category basis, we are not going to get MBBS seats because of limited seats allotted by the Central Govt.

Here we want to state here that the case  filed by one Vidya S claiming for regional seats should not  be a disturbance as the regional seats are reserved for ST candidates only. According to 80:20 reservation quota, enough seats have been allotted to other categories. Therefore, we will not accept deduction of seats from reserved quota and fight for justice.

We appeal to  the state Govt to convince Centre for allocation of additional seats for  the students who secured ranks. We also appeal to all the ministers, MLA, Parliamentarians to seek additional seats for larger interest of students of Arunachal Pradesh.

Renewable energy and telecom sector

A report released by Greenpeace presents a detailed economic and environmental road map based on the Green Telecom Directive issued by Department of Telecommunication (DoT) based on the recommendation of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) earlier this year.

As per the report, there is a return on investment to the tune of Rs 13,000 crore for Indian telecom industry, if it phases out diesel completely and replaces it with renewable energy technologies by 2020. It also suggests high, but logical carbon emission reduction target for Indian telecom sector by 2020.

The report suggests that the telecom operators should reduce their carbon emission by 40 per cent, to enable effective transition to low-carbon business model.

Greenpeace India Campaigner and co-author of the report said “With growth, the sector’s appetite for energy will increase, making it a significant source of carbon emissions unless the industry adopts and advocates renewable energy use and backs laws to cut emission .” He added that  the telecom sector is well positioned to transit to a low-carbon growth trajectory.

The report emphasizes that if the Green Telecom Directive is implemented effectively on ground,  it can help save the Indian telecom sector over Rs 2,430 crore on its annual energy expenditure, apart from a saving of over Rs 380 crore to the state exchequer.
